THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM

The peripheral nervous system is all the nerves in your body, aside from the ones in your brain and spinal cord. It act as a communication relay between your brain and your extremities. For example, if you touch a hot stove, the pain signal travels from your body finger to your brain in a split second. In just as short a time, your brain tells the muscles in your arm and hand to snatch your finger off the hot stove.

ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE
This progressive disease damages nerve cells in parts of the brain involved in memory, learning, language and resoning. In early stages, short-term memory begins to fail. Over time, functions such as long – term memory, language, and judgment decline.

DIMENTIA
It may affect people differently, depending on the area of brain affected. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia.
The basic route cause for the disease is destructive mind, not focused. Tension, worries gives negativity in thoughts that affects ones thinking process and kills the mind causes depression. Loneliness is also one of the causes.

LIFESTYLE AND HOME REMEDIES:
  • ENHANCE COMMUNICATION. When talking with your loved one, maintain eye contact. Speak slowly in simple sentences, and don’t rush the response.
  • ENCOURAGE EXECISE. Exercise benefits everyone, including people with dementia. The main benefits of exercise include improved strength and cardiovascular health. Exercise can also lessen symptoms of depression, help retain motor skills and create a calming effect.

ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION IN GAMES AND THINKING ACTIVITIES.
Participating in games, crossword puzzles and other activities in which people are using thinking skills may help slow mental decline in people with dementia.

TREATMENT:
  • Vitamin E may slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease
  • Omega 3s, a type of polyunsaturated fatty acid found in fish and nuts, may reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and mild cognitive impairment
  • Antioxidant occurs naturally in our body. Its also necessary for normal cell reactions.

The following techniques may help reduce agitation and promote relaxation in people with dementia.
  • Music therapy, which involves listening to soothing music
  • Aromatherapy, which uses fragrant plant oils
  • Massage therapy

NATUROPATHY TREATMENT:
  • Improve eating habits. Sprouts like moong, sesame seeds and wheat. Roots n tubers, vegetable soup, salads.
  • Onion juice in the morning on an empty stomach, 1 and a half tbsp; do not take anything for half an hour after that. Virgin coconut oil 1 tbsp in the morning (soothing agent).
  • Malkangni oil intake 5 drops in milk or on battasha twice a day.
  • Shirobeach in the beginning for 5 days continuously, then twice a week, then twice in 15 days, then twice in month. Rai pillow 1-2 hr in a day (if sweating takes place reduce the time). If patients get hyper give him fever kadha.

ACUPRESSURE:
  • GL5, polarity, head pt.
  • Pranayam which purifies the blood.
  • Yoga, meditation purifies the mind, will improve mind control.

NERVOUS SYSTEM & RELATED DISEASES

Your brain’s hemispheres are divided into four lobes.
The frontal lobes control thinking, planning, organizing, problem solving, short-term memory and movement.

The parietal lobes interpret sensory information, such as taste, temperature and touch.

The occipital lobes process images from your eyes and link that information with images stored in memory.

The temporal lobes process information from your senses of smell, taste and sound. They also play a role in memory storage.

The cerebellum is a wrinkled ball of tissue below and behind the rest of your brain. It works to combine sensory information from the eyes, ears and muscles to help coordinate movement. The brainstem links the brain to the spinal cord. It controls many functions vital to life, such as heart rate, blood pressure and breathing. This area is also important for sleep.

Functions Of Thalamus and Hypothalamus

Structures deep within the brain control emotions and memories. Known as the limbic system, these structures come in pairs. Each part of this system is duplicated in the opposite half of the brain.
The thalamus acts as a gatekeeper for messages past between the spinal cord and the cerebral hemispheres. The hypothalamus controls emotions. It also regulates your body’s temperature and controls crucial urges- such as eating or sleeping.

The hippocampus sends memories to be stored in appropriate sections of the cerebrum and then recalls hem when necessary.

NERVE CELLS

Nerve cells (neurons) have two main types of branches coming off their cell bodies. Dendrites receive incoming messages from other nerve cells. Axons carry outgoing signals from the cell body to other cells- such as a nearby neuron or muscle cell.

Interconnected with each other, neurons are able to provide efficient, lightning-fast communication. It communicates with other cells through electrical impulses when the nerve cell is stimulated. Within a neuron, the impulse moves to the tip of an axon and causes the release of neurotransmitters, chemicals, that act as messengers.

Neurotransmitters pass through the synapse, the gap between two nerve cells, and attach tp receptors on the receiving cell. This process repeats from neuron to neuron, as the impulse travels to its destination – a web of communication that allows you to move, think, feel and communicate.

When should we drink water?

Daily Routine

When should we drink water?

USHAPAN – the very best time for drinking water is to drink four glasses (1 ltr) first thing upon arising in the morning.

BENEFITS OF USHAPAN:

One should drink 4 glass of water in the morning after waking up without cleansing your mouth so before going to bed clean your mouth. One should sit and drink water otherwise it will create gases and stomach pain.

The first glass of water separates the oxygen and hydrogen (it dilutes the acids). Oxygen enters in the blood hemoglobin and cleanses it. Hydrogen mixes with plasma and cleanses it. Second glass of water pushes down the diluted acid from the stomach. Third and fourth glass of water cleanses the digestive system as well as small and big blood vessels. It cleanses the kidney. It removes the constipation, gas, acidity and other related diseases.

We should never drink water with our meals as it will dilute the hydrochloric acid in the stomach. This acid will have a harder time in breaking down the food, causing the food to stay in stomach longer, and causing indigestion, ulcers, etc. we should wait at least one hour after we eat before drinking water and no sooner than 15 minutes before we eat. It is also not advisable to drink real hot or real cold water or liquids of any kind as these extremes are debilitating to the stomach. Water is needed to help regulate our temperatures.

Balanced diet with respect to acidic and alkalinity of blood:

The blood of a person is regulated to be pure if it is 80% alkaline and 20% acidic after chemical process in it. This mean that if one portion of our daily diet is acid producing, four times that portion should be alkali producing. Only then we should remain healthy, otherwise not. So its best to start your day with alkaline breakfast that is raw food.

To stay happy, healthy and away from all diseases we need to go close to nature, and learn discipline in life and follow the natural life.

After fruits, the natural food of human beings is leafy vegetables. It is alkaline and at the same time it has mineral salts. All leafy vegetables are alkaline in their natural form; therefore the best way of eating leafy vegetables is to make their salad. By taking salad regularly skin diseases and impurity of blood do not occur, the heat of the body subsides and one does not suffer from constipation.

Healthy diet shall be our medicine. One should eat sprouted moong, sesame seeds, wheat, green chana in the morning. It is full of vitamin E and A, carbohydrates, protein and fiber. One can put sprouts in the sun in the morning it will give vitamin D as well.

Why you should eat a healthy breakfast?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the body. It provides you with the energy and nutrients that lead to increased concentration in the days work. Studies show that breakfast can be important in maintaining a healthy body weight. Hunger sets in long before it’s time for lunch. People who skip breakfast are unlikely to make up their daily requirement for some vitamins and minerals that a simple breakfast would have provided.

Breakfast provides energy for the activities during the morning and helps to prevent that mid-morning slump. Plan ahead to eat breakfast. This means you should decide what you are going to eat for breakfast before the next morning. You can save time by putting out the box of cereal (sprouts, nuts, fruits) the night before.

BREAKFAST:

Soak 2 walnut, 2 figs, 2 jardalu, 3 almond, few raisins, dates in the water and eat them in the morning. Sprouted moong, sesame seed, wheat (2:1:1). One can take juices of carrot, beetroot, aloe vera, small piece of turmeric,2 cloves of garlic together every morning. Or wheat grass juice. This breakfast provides you multi-vitamin, minerals, digestible protein, calories enough for morning schedule. Raisins, dates and apricot can be used instead of sugar as well as they are alkaline and have plenty of mineral salts.

Mid morning take any seasonal juicy fruit.

Do all 4 pranayam 10-15 times. It will improve our overall health. Yogasanas as it makes our body flexible. It improves concentration, blood circulation. Suryanamaskar, morning walk with the help of this we will achieve Air element. Morning’s fresh air gives us the pure oxygen, which will help us to purify the blood.

Later in the afternoon 12.00 to 1.00 pm take lunch. Start with salad, dal, rice/roti & vegetable, buttermilk etc. have your dinner before 8:00 pm. Leave a gap of 3-4 hours before going to bed.

Before going to bed omkar meditation / water fall meditation, it will help in peaceful sound sleep. Do Anulom-vilom pranayam and Shavasana.

Chakra

Chakra is a Sanskrit word and it means “Wheel” or “Vortex” because that is what it looks like when we look at it. Each chakra is like a solid ball of energy interpenetrating the physical body, in the same way that a magnetic field can interpenetrate the physical body.

Chakras interact with the physical body through two major vehicles, the endocrine system and the nervous system. Each of the seven main chakras discussed here are associated with one of the seven endocrine glands and also with a particular group of nerves called a plexus.

Thus, each of these chakra’s can be associated with particular parts of the body and particular functions within the body controlled by that plexus or that endocrine gland associated with that chakra. Each of the chakra’s or Energy centers has governance over particular areas of your body.

One of the strongest associations to affect your health and well-being is formed with your endocrine system. The endocrine system is part of the body’s main control mechanism.

It comprises of a number of ductless glands that produce the hormones, acting as chemical messengers that are secreted into the blood stream from particular organs to stimulate or inhibit physical processes. By adjusting the hormone levels, the endocrine system works to maintain the body in a state of optimum health.

The first chakra is called ‘MULADHARA’ CHAKRA’ or ROOT CHAKRA. ‘MUL’ means root and ‘ADHAR’ means support or foundation. It’s developmental stage is from the time you are in the womb till the age of 12 months.

As the name suggests, it provides support for your physical existence. For a tree to grow and bloom, the roots should be healthy and strong and get nutrition to remain that way. Similarly for strength, vitality and a strong skeletal system, the root chakra should be open and balanced.

It is associated with the reproductive glands. It is the center of physical energy, grounding, and self preservation. The Root Chakra governs the back, feet, hips, spine and legs. At the top of the kidney’s are the adrenal’s that produce several hormones including adrenalin, which stimulates the “fight or flight” response and ties directly to the Base Chakra’s survival drive.

This Chakra is related to the gonads in males.

THE SWASDHISTHANA CHAKRA

It governs the sexual organs, bladder, bowel and lower intestine. The second chakra is called Swadhisthana Chakra, meaning ‘sweetness’. It is also called Sacral Chakra, located just under the navel and deals with our duality, the feminine and masculine energy, or shiva and shakti or yin and yang. Its developmental stage is from the age of 6 months to 24 months.
The Swasdhisthana Chakra is associated with our senses or sensual pleasure, and hence it is also called our sexual chakra. Though it is not limited only to uor sexual exploration but also extends all the pleasures that we seek on physical level, in our different role as a human being. The mother’s pleasure in nurturing her baby is also a second chakra function.
This chakra is about feeling and sexuality. When it is open, your feeling flow freely and are expressed without you being over emotional.

THE MANIPUR CHAKRA

It governs stomach, upper intestine, upper back and upper spine. This chakra is about asserting yourself in a group. When it is open you feel it control and you have sufficient self esteem. When this chakra is under-active you tend to be passive and indecisive.
The pancreas secrets substances for the digestion of food, such as insulin. When this chakra is over stimulated it can cause problems with excess blood sugar, the major cause of diabetes. An under stimulated stomach chakra can lead to ulcers.
The third chakra is called Manipur Chakra, which means ‘Lustrous gem’. It is also called Solar Plexus Chakra and is the seat of our personal power. The third chakra stores our judgments, opinions and beliefs that we have gathered throughout our lives; about ourselves and the world we live in. its developmental stage is the age of 18 to 42 months.
When your third chakra is opened and balanced, you exercise the choices in your life and become in charge of your own destiny. You are also able to choose your own beliefs rather than conforming to the external beliefs imposed upon you.

THE HEART CHAKRA

It is associated with the circulatory System and thymus Gland. It is the centre of Compassion, Love, Group Consciousness and Spirituality. The Heart Chakra governs the heart, lungs, blood, and circulation. As the Heart Chakra is about Love, kindness and affection, when it is open, you are compassionate and friendly, you work at harmonious relationships.
The thymus is located above the heart and produces lymphocytes, which form a vital part of the body’s immune response. The quality relates the thymus to the healing properties of the heart chakra. The healing promoted by this chakra links it to the Thymus.
The fourth chakra is called ‘Anahata’, meaning ‘Unstruck’. It is also known as heart chakra as it is located in the center of the chest. Its developmental stage is from 3.5 to 7 years of age. This chakra deals with Love, Courage and Compassion. When the Anahata is open you are able to radiate love for yourself which enables you to receive and express love unconditionally rather than becoming dependent on others to love you. This is also the level where you integrate your spiritual self with your physical being.

THE THROAT CHAKRA

It is associated with the respiratory system / thyroid gland. It is the centre for sound , communication, speech, writing and thought expression. It governs the throat, mouth, thyroid, teeth, tongue and jaw. This chakra is about self expression and talking. When it is open you have no problems expressing yourself and you might be doing so in a creative way.
On either side of the larynx is the thyroid, producing thyroxin which controls the rate at which the body converts food into useful energy. This is the area over which the throat chakra has dominance. The thyroid governs the rate of metabolism in the body.
The fifth chakra is called ‘VISHUDDHA’ meaning ‘Purification’. As it is located at the base of the throat, it is also known as the Throat Chakra. The fifth chakra deals with expression and communication. Through the fifth chakra we express what we think, feel desire and detest. Its developmental stage is 7 to 12 years of age . when open, your Vishuddha chakra allows you to fully express yourself without fear of rejection. You are able to communicate your thoughts, feeling and desires. You are also able to speak up for yourself and effectively communicate your needs to others.

THE THIRD EYE CHAKRA

It is associated with the autonomic nervous system. It is the centre of psychic power, spirit energies, higher intuition and light. It governs the pituitary gland, pineal gland, skull, eyes, brain, nervous system and the senses.
This chakra is about insight and visualization. When it is open, you have a good intuition. You may tend to fantasies.
Near the base of the skull is the pituitary gland, which releases hormones influencing body chemistry.
The spiritual energy of the Brow chakra are reflected in the pituitary influence on the whole body. This chakra works with the pituitary gland in the body.
The sixth chakra is called the Ajna chakra, which means ‘Command Center’. It is also known as the third eye chakra due to its location between the eye brows. It deals with your inner vision, intuition and intellect. Its developmental stage is at puberty.
With an open sixth chakra you can connect better with your intuitive abilities. You are able to see your life purpose from an expanded view and you have better trust in the process of life. Your consciousness and awareness are greatly expanded.

THE CROWN CHAKRA

It is associated with the external nervous system/ pineal gland. It is the centre for enlightenment, dynamic thought, truth and oneness. The Crown Chakra governs the top of the spinal cord, brain stem, pain centre and nerves. This chakra is about wisdom and being one with the world. When this chakra is open, you are unprejudiced and quiet aware of the world and yourself. If it is under active, you are not very aware spiritually.
The pineal gland lies deep within the brain and produces melatonin. This hormone affects the other glands in the endocrine system and mirrors the Crown Chakra’s relationship with the other chakra’s. this gland and chakra hold sway over the entire system.
The seventh major chakra is called Sahasrara Chakra, which means ‘Thousand Fold’ and is represented by a thousand petaled lotus. It is located just about the head and is also known as ‘Crown Chakra’. The seventh chakra is your connection to your divinity. It is the state of unity and divine consciousness. Its developmental stage is throughout life.
With a clear crown chakra, you have the ability to rise a wider perspectives of your higher self yet stay aware of the wisdom of the other six. You encompass more than thinker, pleaser or other sub-selves. You expand your awareness to more than your body. You expand your perspective to everyone and everything, everywhere at all times. Be fully human and fully divine at the same time.

Meditation

An ordinary person may consider meditation as a worship or prayer. But it is not so. Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. “Watching your breath” is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.

Meditation is not a technique but a way of life. Meditation means ‘a cessation of the thought process’. It describes a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns. The observer realizes that all the activity of the mind is reduced to one.

Health Benefits Of Meditation:
  • Reduces anxiety attacks by lowering the levels of blood lactate.
  • Decreases muscle tension and headaches.
  • Builds self-confidence.
  • It increases serotonin production which influences mood and behavior. Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression, obesity, insomnia and headaches.

Omkar Meditation:
Mantra meditation is the easiest and safest form of meditation and can be practiced by anyone at any time and under any conditions, eg. AUM chanting.

AUM is a root of all mantras. “mantras” is a typical combination of words which affects the surrounding and human beings through the vibrations. These mantras are to be chanted for enormous number of times to get the results. The results are miraculous. AUM is composed of three elements, ‘a’, ‘u’, and ‘m’. the fusion of these three elements is AUM or OM. The three alphabets are pronounced in series.

AUM can be seen through the eyes, listened to via ears and chanted via tongue. It is somewhat similar to concentrate on the above three sense organs, so it is easy to concentrate the mind directly on the object. This is achieved by fixing AUM as a target for meditation on which three sense organs are focused. In addition to this the chanting of AUM has tranquilizing effect on the mind, which helps to concentrate easily.
  • The “A” stands for the state of wakefulness, where are sense organs are active.
  • The “U” stands for state, in which inward experiences are available.
  • The “M” represents deep sleep, when the mind is without desire.

The basic idea of pranayam is that by purifying the whole of the nervous system including the brain, it ultimately leads to the removal of ignorance and to stability and peace of mind. These are the qualities which everyone desires to have but very few do actually possess.

Coordination among various functions is brought about by the nervous system. It has two parts:
  • The central nervous system, consisting of the brain, the spinal cord and the spinal nerves
  • The autonomic nervous system. The former governs all the voluntary function. The nervous tissues are highly sensitive to lack of oxygen and excess of carbon dioxide.
Moderate practice of pranayam can help to supply enough oxygen and remove carbon dioxide quickly. Kapalbhati is the best exercise for this purpose.
